I’ve reached the end of my first working week at Msichana and I think it’s been a productive one.
Joyce and I have been working on the reporting, making sure Quickbooks has everything in that should be in and then pulling the information into the annual report. Msichana have the auditors coming next month so it’s important to have this information complete.
Yesterday I went with Joyce to the bank, we needed to pay in some cheques and get the bank statements printed. Joyce got two tickets when we arrived and the ticket numbers were being called out on the screen. Despite ours not being called Joyce was still seen and she had to go to multiple people around the bank to complete the transactions. It took almost two hours and I was still none the wiser to how the banking system worked after sitting and observing for all that time.
This morning some of the girls who needed pads came to the office, period poverty is a real issue out here with girls missing school because they cannot afford sanitary products. Magdaline suggested we take some photos of me giving them to them as I had brought so many out with me. We discussed the options, including the reusable ones I had bought from cheeky wipes, and one girl chose to take 5 reusable wipes which will keep her going for longer than the disposable ones.
