On Sunday I decided to go to the Masai Mara for the day as I had been told it was only around 2 hours away and I love a safari so it seemed like a great excuse to squeeze one in.
Unfortunately the roads are terrible after the rains and it took over 4 hours to get to the park and a further 5 hours to get home due to a flat tyre.
Once we were there we saw a lot of elephants, some giraffe, hippos, zebra, buffalo and a number of antelope which was great! Sadly no big cats though.

I hired a man with a car from local to where I was staying and while he was fine driving us round the park there is nothing quite like having a trained guide who knows everything about the bush, the animals and can track.
If I had never done safari before I think I’d still have had a brilliant day because we did see quite a lot in the short time we were there. However, having done a number of safaris in recent years and knowing how amazing they can be when they’re done properly, I did end the day feeling quite frustrated and upset that I’d spent a lot of money on a disappointing day. Luckily I did at least get some great photos!
